Decking the Halls

Camp Newaygo is all decked out for Christmas, and it looks spectacular.  We had a few helpful volunteers put up three twenty-foot trees, four six-foot trees, all of our tiny pine cone decorations, and a minature snowy village.  The vintage sleigh is also back in its spot by the twinkly birch tree in the Great Room.

The fireplace in the Great Room looks so festive

In honor of Christmas Camp Newaygo has signed up to be a drop-off site for Toys-for-Tots.  If you have any gifts you were planning to donate, send them our way and we would be happy to take them.

We also hope you can join us next Saturday, December 8 from 4pm to 8pm for our Santa and S'mores event.  See reindeer, Santa, and the elves!

Caption Contest

Hello All!

I found a great picture in our archives that I would love to get your reaction on - and I also want to see who's out there in the blog world reading this.  So...caption contest!  The winner gets a giant virtual high five (next time I might offer a real prize like a free pass to an upcoming event)!

I feel I should give some backstory on this picture, but it would implement me so you're getting zilch.

Give it your best shot in the comments.

Deer Day

Hello All!

In some parts of Michigan,  today is considered a holiday - it's Opening Day of rifle hunting season.

I know, I know, in Michigan when is it NOT some sort of hunting season.

In my family, the guys all get up early and have a big breakfast, usually made by my gramma or mom.  When I was in school, I usually was the only person in the house still sleeping, and never knew any of this was going on.  All I knew was that I got to wear an orange hat if I had to wait for the bus in the morning or go for a walk after school.

Now that I'm out of school and in the working world, the day has taken on a new outlook - Hunter's Widows Day aka shopping!  Fremont has a great Ladies Night event downtown, and this weekend I'm planning a big day out with the girls in my family to get a headstart on Christmas presents.  Let the guys have their solitude; the girls know how to really have fun.

Because you know this is what really happens anyway.

Sneak Peek: Buckeye!

Jalisa just returned from a planning weekend in Ohio for the Buckeye Leadership Workshop, and she brought some juicy tidbits for the upcoming BLW.  I've been looking through the session offerings and there's just too many to choose!

For those of you who don't know, BLW is a learning, sharing "workshop" that focuses on experimental learning through recreation.  Anyone 15 and over who is interested in developing or improving their recreational leadership skills can attend.  The atmosphere is welcoming and positive - it's like camp for camp staff.  We have jam sessions, square dancing and mixers, crafts, games, and we learn lots of new stuff to take back with us.  Last year was an absolute blast, and I can't wait to go back in April.

Probably one of my favorite things is the themed evening programs, because you get to dress up.  Last year we dressed up for a space theme, eighties prom, and the roaring 20's.  This year is going to be just as awesome, and I'm already planning out my outfits:  Go-Go Gadget, Go Back in Time, and Go Team.  I'm already a step ahead with my Marty FcFly costume from Halloween.

Check out their website at www.buckeyeleadsership.com for more info, and to check out their featured presenter for the workshop.  April needs to come soon!

A Spooktacular Weekend

Mother nature must be a fan of Halloween at Camp Newaygo, because the weather was great for our three day fall fest.  We saw some adorable costumes like Taylor Swift, bumblebees and ladybugs, a ninja, a cow, a zombie hunter and Pikachu.

And this awesome penguin.

It was great to see so many parents out with their kids having a good time.  We love being able to provide a place for families to create memories together.

Next up is our annual fall Bake Sale - check out the homepage of our website for more information on what's for sale and how to order.  In December we have Santa and Smores on the 8th, Ladies Night Out (a fondue party this year!) on the 6th and Horse Drawn Light Tours on the 13th and 14th.  Check 'em out!
